“Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of medical conditions. It works with the structure and function of the body, and is based on the principle that the well-being of an individual depends on the skeleton, muscles, ligaments and connective tissues functioning smoothly together.” General Osteopathic Council.
A highly developed sense of touch, combined with a detailed case history and structural examination, determines the extent and location of any areas of restriction (strain patterns) in the body. Treatment involves applying gentle hands on techniques to help resolve patterns of strain and tension, relieve discomfort and improve the body’s function. This will aid the different body systems, muscular, circulatory, nervous and immune, to work effectively and optimally.
Osteopathy can be applied to all ages and can be used to treat a breadth of conditions from general aches and pains through to discomfort in pregnancy and babies and children who are displaying an unsettled nature or distressed behaviour.
